ORLANDO, FL : Weistec Engineering driver, and defending two time Bojangles’ Summer Shootout Champion, Jordan Black, will be attempting to do what no driver in Summer ShootOut history has been able to do; be the first driver to win three consecutive Pro Division ShootOut Championships.
There have only been two other drivers to come close to this accomplishment in the Pro Division; current NASCAR drivers, Jordan Anderson, with Pro Division wins in 2007 and 2008, and Daniel Hemric, with three Pro Division Championships in 2009, 2013 and 2014.
Over the past two summers, Jordan Black’s championships have come down to the final races of the series. In 2015, after missing round two, he rallied to beat standout, Michael Torres, taking the title by only 4 points. Last summer, he battled all series long with current NASCAR K&N driver, Chase Purdy, in a championship that was decided in round ten, on a restart, with just 8 laps to go.
Black will be looking to take on this three-peat challenge with his new crew chief, Steven Ross. The former Fab Specialties driver is hoping the partnership with Steven Ross Motorsports will pave the way to a dominating, third consecutive championship. “I’m excited to finally get the chance to race a Steven Ross prepared car” he says. ”I feel like we’ll be one of the favorites going into it in June.”
He won’t be joining SRM alone; he’ll be backed by the support of his sponsor Bode Sales and Service Incorporated. He’ll also be acting as driver coach to three of the newest members of the team; Hudson, Harrison, and Holt Halder. The first trio of brothers to all wins a QMRA Grand National event, and the USAC Nationals.
Weistec Engineering, another one of Black’s Bojangles’ Summer ShootOut sponsors, will also be working with him towards his IMSA debut. While the AMG GT3 is under development for its future IMSA season, the high end, mechanical engineering company out of Anaheim, CA has brought him on as a factory test driver. In this position he will be testing newly developed parts that Weistec is working to put into future production, as well as prototype production vehicles.
Company President and CEO, Mike Weiss is looking forward to having Jordan on board with this project. “Having a young, talented driver such as Jordan joining the Weistec race team is something we are very proud of,” he says. “His passion for excellence and professionalism is a something we pride ourselves with here at Weistec, we approach each of our projects with the same attitude.”
Jordan will hit the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the 2017 Bojangles’ Summer ShootOut next June to try and bring home a third Pro Division Title.
