Cody Apfelbeck Powers His Way to a Wild Legends Car Win at Beaver Dam Raceway (WI)

BEAVER DAM, WI : Warren Ropp and Daniel Mech led a strong 22 car field of Wisconsin Dirt Legends to the green flag of Saturday night’s 20 lap feature event.

Nate Chitko jumped out to the early race lead around the outside of pole sitter Ropp. It didn’t take Ropp long to retake the top spot as by lap five he moved back around Chitko and brought Chris Hoedel and Michael Mueller with him to the top three.

As Ropp extended his lead by lap 10 a multi-car battle was underway for the runner-up spot with Chitko, Hoedel, Justin Pearson, Vince Bartolotta and Cody Apfelbeck, who had started back in the 11th position.

The caution flag waved on lap 12 for a slow car on the backstretch and this set up a wild and slow restart.

As the field came to complete lap 13, Chitko went three-wide on the bottom of turn four and pulled a slide job to take the lead of the race back away from Ropp.

On lap 15, the leader of the race Chitko lost control off turn 4 and collected the second and third place cars of Pearson and Bartolotta, respectively. Apfelbeck, who was in fourth place, inherited the lead by just being able to avoid the accident, along with Ropp.

Pearson and Bartolotta were able to continue on, but Chitko’s night was finished.

Ropp would retake the lead from Apfelbeck on the restart and those two along with Mueller, who had recovered from a solo spin of his own, and Jim Bucher put on a show for the lead over the final five laps.

Apfelbeck drove his #34 in deep on the outside of Ropp in turn one on the final lap and was able to get the drive off turn two and score the INEX Legends Car feature win.
