SWANSBORO, NC : Caleb Day dominated in the Legends feature, while nursing a motor that expired shortly after the finish of the race, to win over Brenton Irving and Justin Mitchell. Irving and Mitchell were both involved in a last lap incident when Mitchell spun off Irving’s front bumper coming to the checkered flag. Mitchell finished third.
However, in victory lane, it was all about the continued dominance of Caleb Day. Day has now won six consecutive races in the Legends division, with two wins at Southern National, three wins at Carteret County Speedway and a win at Coastal Plains Raceway Park.
“That’s the last race for that motor,” Day said. “I smelled it with about five to go and I just said a prayer. I don’t know if it’s going to fire up to drive back to the trailer. (It didn’t.) We had a good run. It feels good. I was a little nervous. The car was not where it needed to be. We were way off and I was glad everybody else was a little off too.”
Carteret County Speedway will once again be in action on Sunday, May 27th for the third running of the Memorial Classic. The race will be headlined by Late Models with the rest of the schedule to be finalized early this week.
