GERING, NE : The Rocky Mountain Legends Racing Association Rumble in the Rockies kicked off last night on the Oregon Trail at third-mile bullring that is HiWay 92 Raceway Park. A solid field of Legend cars and a competitive group of Bandolero teams showed up for night one of the three night INEX regional qualifier event.
The first feature of the group was the 15 lap Bandolero feature race. After she struggled in the heat race with going in the right direction, Lilli McAfee started on the outside of the front row alongisde inside row starter James Starcher after the dice roll of six.
McAfee jumped out to the lead right from the drop of the green flag as Trayc Walker and Brody Moore battled for the runner-up spot. Eventually, Walker would win out on that battle and caught leader McAfee for the top spot.
Early race favorite, and fast time qualifier Kody King fought trash in the carburetor from the green flag and was off pace through most of the feature. King also won the trophy dash race and the heat race for the Bandoleros on Friday night, but with his engine woes he only made it up to fourth at the checkered flag.
After 15 green flag laps it was Lilli McAfee able to hold off Walker and Moore to take the opening night win in the first Rumble in the Rockies event of the weekend at HiWay 92 Raceway Park.

The Rocky Mountain Legends Racing Association Legends divsion was the nightcap of features to close out the first night of action in the Rumble in the Rockies at HiWay 92 Raceway Park on Friday night.
After a dice roll of eight it would put Travis Roe and Darrell Stewart, Jr. on the front row for the 25 lap feature contest. Roe lead the first couple of laps before Wayne Barlock, Jr. made quick work of Nick Cooper and Roe to take the lead on lap three.
The drivers on the move were Jason Irwin and Danny Medina towards the front of the field. Medina was forced to start 8th after the dice roll due to his win in the heat race earlier in the night.
Irwin and Medina moved into third and fourth quickly and ran lockstep as they ran down Cooper for the second spot. Barlock, Jr. had opened up about a half a straightaway lead as the battle for second became a three car tussle around the halfway point.
Around ten laps to go and off turn four, Irwin and Medina made the move underneath Cooper to dropkick him to fourth and look to close the 10 car length deficit to the race leader Barlock, Jr.
Medina used a little chrome horn to move by Irwin in turn two with three laps to go, however without any caution flag in the feature they were unable to catch eventual race winner Wayne Barlock, Jr. on the first night of Legends action for the Rumble in the Rockies.
“I’ve got nobody else to thank but my dad that puts the set-up on the car. This win is huge for us as we had Jason Irwin, Danny Medina, and a really great bunch of guys and to go two in a row in the RMLRA is just amazing,” said an emotional Wayne Barlock, Jr. in victory lane.
