BETHEL, NY : After ten consecutive years of hosting the marquee event in the Northeast each year, track management at Bethel Motor Speedway have confirmed to LegendsNation.com that LegendStock will not take place in 2018.
The annual event has seen car counts dwindle in recent years from over fifty entries to just half that amount last season. This year the track has seen the weekly car count for both Legends and Bandoleros fall into the single digits.
Bethel Motor Speedway General Manager George Van Arsdall, Jr., said “It wasn’t an easy decision for any of us to make, but we chose to try and preserve the namesake and intergity of the event.”
Past winners of the Woodstock inspired guitar trophy include inaugural overall winner Michael Gervais in 2008, three-time winner and current NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Daniel Hemric, current Monster Energy Cup Series spotter Tyler Green, Alex McCollum and last year’s overall winner Jim Sylvester.
The Legends will still compete as part of the weekly schedule on August 18th, the date originally reserved for LegendStock 2018, in an INEX Asphalt National Qualifier race.
“By not running it this year, it prevents drivers and fans from thinking anything less of the event, because of poor overall participation. I can promise you that it will be back, but now is just not the time,” stated Van Arsdall, Jr.
LegendStock has been held annually in August at Bethel Motor Speedway from 2008 through 2017, with individual winners in each class being recognized with the guitar trophy. The highest finishing Pro, Master, Semi-Pro and Young Lion driver is declared the class winner and receives a trophy. In recent years, the Bandolero overall winner has been given a guitar also.
