PEEBLES, OH : The entire 2018 season on the National Legend Car Association’s tour, the Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Car Series has come down to 4 Championship players who are set to do battle to decide it all! Each Championship contender earned their way into the top 4 in Point Standings throughout the year and now have one final event to prove that they deserve to join the list of previous series champions. Jerren Perdue, John Gutman, Steve Duderstadt and Matt Isaac are the 4 drivers ready to take to the track on October 19th for their chance at the title. The Championship event is big enough already for the contenders but October 19th is also the Legend Car Dirt Track World Championship, an event in which every racer wants their name atop!
On Friday October 19th, the 2018 Champion will be decided at Portsmouth Raceway Park during the Legend Car Dirt Track World Championship A-Main! The Dirt Track World Championship is a three day racing event with Legend Cars racing on Friday Night. The weekend of racing culminates with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series going for the $100,000 Top Prize on Saturday Night. The Late Models will run their Qualifying and Heat Races on Friday Night alongside the Legend Cars. To win the 2018 Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Car Series Championship, a Championship Contender must finish ahead of the other contenders in Friday Night’s main event.
In 2017, Steve Duderstadt won the Inaugural Legend Car Dirt Track World Championship A-Main with Derek Minshew making a final lap pass for the Championship. 2018 is shaping up to be another exciting championship battle with the top drivers on the tour as contenders. Between the 4 Championship contenders you have 1 Previous Champion and 8 Wins in 2018 Alone. Below we breakdown each individual champion and their shot at the 2018 Title:
Matt Isaac – Running his first full time season, Matt Isaac has made a splash on the 2018 OVRLCS Tour scoring his first career win back on June 16th at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Coming in 4th in the standings, Isaac locked himself in by 55 Points over 5th Place Ashley Tackett. Isaac has only ran a handful of races at the Portsmouth, OH 3/8 Mile setting him at a bit of a disadvantage but his hard work and determination throughout the season makes up for where he lacks in experience.
Steve Duderstadt – The driver who has been so-close yet so-far time and time again, Steve Duderstadt is poised in position to try for another championship. With 4 Wins in 2018, Duderstadt leads all other drivers on the tour in wins, however all came at one track, Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Duderstadt was the winner of the Inaugural Legend Car Dirt Track World Championship in 2017 and also enter the 2018 event with momentum coming off of a win in the last event held. Duderstadt has been in contention to win a championship before, mot notably when he struck a tractor tire while battling for a championship win.
John Gutman – Throughout his years of racing on the Tour, John has had multiple opportunities to battle for a championship. Gutman is one of the classic veterans being a part of the tour from the very beginning and is always contending for wins and top 5 finishes each and every week. Although win-less in 2018, John has been very consistent and wound up 2nd in the season point standings. Gutman also finished 2nd in the 2017 Championship hunt behind Derek Minshew. John Gutman knows how to win races and be in the running for championships and looks to finally make the jump to winning a Championship on October 19th.
Jerren Perdue – Smashing through the 2018 season with unbelievable consistency, Jerren Perdue has been nothing but strong at each and every event. Starting out the season in loaned race cars and finally solidifying his own ride in the early stages of the year, Perdue never let any of this slow his performance. The leader in Championship standings before the equalization has won 3 Feature events (One at Brushcreek and one at Moler Raceway Park) on the tour. Perdue lead the standings into the cutoff by a staggering 91 Points over the cut line. Although his 2018 Legend Car Dirt Track World Championship results don’t reflect, he is a previous winner at Portsmouth Raceway Park. Perdue is also the 2013 Series champion, the 2nd Champion in series history. Perdue is the only driver in the Championship Contenders battling for his second title! Jerren Perdue has been the most consistent and arguably the strongest competitor of 2018 and all eyes will be on the 91 car as he tries to finish the job and take the 2018 Title on October 19th.
The Highest finisher out of the Championship Contenders in the Feature event on Friday October 19th will be crowned the 2018 Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Car Series Champion.
