INVERNESS, FL : Tommy Good looked like he would score the victory in the Young Lions feature at Citrus County Speedway on Monday, but ended up finishing 18th after a last lap incident with Janson Marchbanks.
Despite that, Good is still confident about his chances of winning in the division after leading several laps on Monday. The 15-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, is teamed up with Ladyga Motorsports, the same team Daniel Hemric, Austin Green, and Carson Ferguson all drove for early in their racing careers.
“It was just a racing incident,” Good told LegendsNation. “[Marchbanks] came over and apologized to me. Stuff happens on track. I feel like we definitely can improve on a lot of things in that race which really gives us confidence from here on going forward. I’m excited to work with this team, with such a great history. It’s truly an honor.”
While many drivers got into racing by watching a NASCAR race on television, Good fell in love with racing the first time he drove a Go-Kart.
“Racing Go-Karts at Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte,” Good said. “Went one day for fun when I was like eight years old and fell in love with it. Here we are eight years later.”
Good entered the Winter Nationals hoping to win all five races and enter the championship. While he starts out the Winter Nationals in a hole after the last lap incident, he is still planning to win every race he can.
Following the Winter Nationals, he will start focusing on races around the Charlotte area and, later this year, the Legends Asphalt Nationals at Carteret County Speedway.
“We’re going to try to go for the national championship and take it one step at a time, just focus on this week,” Good explained. “As thing go on this season, we’ll start working on just taking it one week at a time. Definitely the Summer Shootout because I live in Charlotte, the Nationals at Carteret and a couple Concord races and some Anderson stuff, and a couple tracks in the local area.”
Away from the track, he is a straight-A student who describes himself as a “normal teenager” who just loves racing.
Good will continue racing in the Young Lions division at the Winter Nationals when racing resumes on Wednesday afternoon. The races will be broadcast on LegendsNation.TV.
