INVERNESS, FL : After a schedule change on Monday night, the race teams of this year’s INEX Winter Nationals were given Tuesday off instead of the originally planned Wednesday due to the dire forecast on Tuesday. As per the weather in Florida, most of the afternoon around the area was rain-free with warm temperatures and sunshine. The entire schedule of events for Tuesday has been shifted to Wednesday with the Young Lions doubles being run on Thursday instead of Friday.
Tuesday offered the race teams a chance for some race car maintenance and further repairs after a rough start in several classes on Monday afternoon. The Tretow Racing team was among those with increased work after Kaleb Bradley hit the wall so hard in the first Bandit feature race that the car was a complete write-off. INEX brought a spare Bandolero chassis this year to the track that was purchased by the Bradley team. Kaleb could be seen working with the Tretow’s in taking apart his #44 car and helping to build a brand new car for Wednesday.
Other teams with a rough first day include Farbo Motorsports, who had two drivers suffer extensive right front damage to their race cars. Janson Marchbanks hit the outside concrete wall on the frontstretch after contact with Tommy Good as the two battled for the win in the Young Lions feature race on Monday. The team expects to have the car fixed and ready to race on Wednesday. Another Farbo driver also was caught up in a multiple car accident as Karl Moberg, just like Marchbanks, is from Anderson, South Carolina, and had the right front knocked off his #21 Legend car in the Masters feature. Just like with his teammate, Moberg should be ready to go racing on Wednesday. Good’s car was just minor suspension repair and he was back on track in time for Monday night practice.
Kendall Sellers was one who definitely needed the off day as he had two clips to rebuild after two of his Bandolero Bandit drivers were involved in separate accidents in a crash-marred first Bandits feature race on Monday. Tristan McKee caught the backstretch wall head on and crushed the front clip on his primary car. Sean McElearney got caught up in a restart accident with Ayrton Brockhouse and Kody King and received extensive right front damage. We were informed that both cars are repairable with new front clips and if not fixed this week, McKee and McElearney have backup cars that they raced in the second feature race.
Wednesday will see a full card of racing action with three classes taking part in double feature races. The Legends Semi-Pros and Masters will each run two features and be joined by the Bandolero Outlaws. The Legends Young Lions and Pros will run their double features on Thursday afternoon.
Tomorrow’s weather is calling for a chance of overnight showers that could linger into the early morning with much cooler temperatures than Monday. The forecast high for Wednesday is only 62 degrees with cloudy skies after the early rain moves out. If needed, the schedule for the day will be adjusted depending on track conditions in the morning.
