CONCORD, NC : This weekend is the final race action for the spring season at Concord Speedway before the annual summer break for teams to focus on the Summer Shootout. After looking at the dismal forecast for Saturday, the track has made some changes to the schedule for both Friday and Saturday.
Mother Nature has not been a race fan this spring in most places across the country and the Southeast region has been no different. With several race dates canceled due to rain already, Concord Speedway added the first two weekends of May as makeups for races lost. They were able to get in the show last Friday under good weather, but lost the Saturday portion as heavy rain and storms moved in late in the afternoon.
Saturday, May 4th was the rescheduled INEX regional qualifier events for both Bandoleros and Legends. After that day was lost due to rain, officials rescheduled those qualifiers for this Saturday, May 11th as the first part of a doubleheader on the final day. However, the weather forecast, much like this spring, has trended down each and every day this week. With almost a 100% chance of wet weather on Saturday, Concord Speedway and INEX have moved the Bandolero and Legend car regional qualifier races to tomorrow, Friday, May 10th.
The track is still scheduling two separate race events on Saturday if the weather were to cooperate, but if that day is rained out those events will not be made up and the spring season will be completed.
Friday’s action begins with the pit gates opening up at 5:30 PM, rotating practice beginning at 6:15 PM, with racing action to follow.
Saturday the first half of the schedule will begin with pit gates opening at 12:00 PM, followed by one round of practice at 12:45 PM. Any cars not in attendance last Saturday can still register for this make-up.
The second half of the doubleheader will begin at 4:30 PM with pit gates and 5:15PM with rotating pracitce.
