TUCSON, AZ : Tucson Speedway payed tribute to those who have and are currently serving in the United States Military with Armed Forces Night Saturday. The flag of each branch of service was paraded around the track as The National Anthem was sung by Pro Stock driver Jeff Halstead.
When the track cleared, an 11-car field of Bandoleros took the green flag. The field consisted of three Outlaw drivers, which run unrestricted in the 12 and older class, and eight Bandit drivers, ranging in age from 8 to 11.
Adam Farr had the lead in the Outlaw class with Anika O’Brien and Kiersten Jones not far behind in second and third.
Maddox O’Brien cleared the Bandit field to take the early lead. Jeffrey Erickson closed the gap on O’Brien with three to go. Going into turn one, O’Brien came down the track making contact with Erickson. Both cars ended their night with a hard crash in the turn one wall. Though the cars sustained serious damage, the drivers were able to walk away from the incident without serious injury.
Jones and Anika O’Brien went to either side of Farr to challenge him for the Outlaw lead on the restart. The engine on O’Brien’s No. 41 expired and she coasted off the track with a third-place finish. A broken shock on Farr’s No. 23 caused him to fall to second and Jones took the checkered flag for her first win of the season. Sabastian Lafia led the Bandit Bandolero field to the checkered flag.
Mike Webber led the Legend field to the green flag. Tyler Hicks moved into second from his fifth-place starting position taking the lead going into lap three.
Bradley Erickson and Webber raced wheel to wheel. Webber’s No. 84 made the slightest shimmy coming out of turn one giving up second. As the battle raged behind him, Hicks opened up a comfortable lead to take the checkered flag.
