HAMPTON, GA : The 2019 Thursday Thunder Series presented by Papa John’s rolls back into action tomorrow at Atlanta Motor Speedway with the sixth round of the ten round series. However, this week comes with some exciting news for the Legends of Georgia teams as the final five rounds will be broadcasted live on LegendsNation TV beginning with tomorrow night.
LegendsNation has been a steady fixture at Atlanta Motor Speedway over the last few years covering a variety of events. This year has seen continued growth in the Legends of Georgia program with growing car counts throughout Thursday Thunder.
This season’s Thursday Thunder Series presented by Papa John’s has seen close competition and tight battles in most of the divisions through the first five weeks. The VP Racing Fuels Legends Pro Division has not seen a repeat winner in the first five events. Last Thursday night, Josh Hicks took over the championship lead with his first win of the summer. Hicks joins the Jorgensen siblings, Jensen and Taylor, along with Ryan Rackley and Davis Rochester with feature wins. The top 8 in points are only separated by 39 points entering round six.
Carson Ramsey has dominated the Racing Radios Bandolero Outlaws Division this summer with three feature wins in five events. Ramsey nearly won last Thursday before his teammate Parker Eatmon came away with the victory. Ramsey enters this week with a comfortable 41 point lead as he chases a Thursday Thunder championship and continues to prepare for the INEX Bandolero Nationals to be held August 31st – September 1st at AMS.
Farbo Motorsports Legends Young Lions driver Lucas Ruark could easily be undefeated this season if not for circumstances. Ruark won the first three races, and was the fastest car on track in round four, but he ran out of green flag laps to catch eventual race winner Austin MacDonald. Last week, Ruark was leading on the final corner and appeared to be on his way to win number four, but contact from second place Landen Lewis sent them both for a spin and opened the door for Kenneth Henderson to take his first career Associates Group Young Lions feature win. Ruark still holds a 30 point lead on Nathan Jackson and 35 on Ashton Whitener in the title fight.
On the verge of two consecutive victories, Nick Woodall has closed the gap to just 3 points on current CMS Group Environmental Services Legends Semi-Pro point leader Max Brady, who has one feature win this summer. The Semi-Pro Division has seen the largest car count and is one of the most competitive divisions at the track this summer.
Carson Ruark captured his first Racing Radios Bandolero Bandits feature win of this year’s Thursday Thunder Series last week and now has a 10 point lead on Garrett Gumm, who is tied with Lucas Vera with two wins a piece. Vera missed last week due to family committments, but makes his return this week and will be a challenger once again.
Eventhough the Wallace Electric Legends Masters Division point standings show a dominating performance by Bill Plemons, Jr., it has been anything but easy for the Locust Grove, Georgia driver. Plemons, Jr. has claimed four of the five feature wins, but he has been challenged each week by either Robbie Woodall or Scott Moseley. After Plemons, Jr. appeared on his way to claiming the win in round four, contact with Woodall on the final restart opened the door for Mark Swan to steal the victory and return to victory lane after almost two years. Plemons, Jr. holds a 30 point lead on Tony Armbuster and 34 on Woodall with five events remaining.
The action picks back up with round six tomorrow night with open practice from 1 PM – 4 PM. The grandstands open up at 6 PM and admission is only $5.00, with children 5 and under admitted free. Hot laps, qualifying sessions and heat racing begins at 6 PM, followed by the feature events for the Legends Chargers and Rookie Bandoleros, before the weekly on track autograph session.
