RIVERHEAD, NY : Riverhead Raceway management is honored to announce the annual INEX Legend Race Car National Qualifier 50 to be contested at the track Saturday night July 13th will be titled the Silas Hiscock INEX Legend Race Car National Qualifier. The 2019 race is being renamed to celebrate the life and racing career of Silas Hiscock Sr. of Bridgehampton who succumbed to injuries suffered during a practice day crash at the track in late April. Hiscock’s family will be on hand for the evening with his son Will bringing Silas’ vintage Modified Sportsman car to display and pace the race.
Silas was a quiet man, big in stature who loved his vintage cars and race cars. He raced at Riverhead Raceway among other tracks back in the day and on July 8th, 1961 won his lone Modified feature in the coupe but as so often happens in life family and starting a thriving business Hampton Gas tank Services in Bridgehampton pulled him away from the game. The many years later came along the INEX Legend Race Cars, complete race cars that paid tribute the old coupes and sedans Silas loved so very much. It was time to go back racing and he did and making the return to the sport when he did also allowed him to race with his sons Silas Jr. and Will who was also practicing his car that fateful afternoon. These days Silas got a kick out of racing against some of the teenage drivers in the class like Artie Pedersen III, Allan Pedersen and Jeffery Farruggia Jr. with whom he grew close and advised along the way.
A stellar turnout of cars and drivers is expected for the Silas Hiscock INEX Legend Race Car National Qualifier at Riverhead Raceway July 13th with the biggest race of the year for the class taking on so much more in the way of special meaning. If there is one driver to point toward as a favorite in these type races look no further than “Big Money” Richie Davidowitz of East Moriches. Going into competition June 29th Richie has won three of Seven races contested leading the championship chase over Eric Hersey of Commack, another threat for the win. Defending INEX Legend Race Car champion Jim Sylvester of Massapequa along with former champ Vinny Delaney of Holtsville will be in the mix for the win as will teenage talent Riely O’Keefe of Manorville who’d love to win his first career race in the Silas Hiscock INEX Legend Race Car National Qualifier.
Kevin Nowak of Medford recently won his 10th career Riverhead main event and will bear watching in the 50-lapper as will Allan Pedersen of Center Moriches, Ed Cheslak of Rocky Point, Jeff Otto of Deer Park and Mike Benton of East Hampton.
July 13th Riverhead Raceway will also host the annual Monster Truck Night of Destruction with the trucks of KSR Motorsports performing in free style competition featuring slap wheelies, cyclones and crushing cars. On the NASCAR racing menu the Crate Modifieds will run a 25-lapper while the Blunderbusts and Mini Stocks are slated for 20-laps each. An 8-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro will also be presented with the distance to be determined by car count.
Qualifying is set for 5:30 pm while opening ceremonies and first feature event are slated for approx 7:00 pm. Adults admission is $30, kids 6-12 $10, 5 & under free.
