PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA : The ninth round of the 2019 Liqui Moly South Africa INEX Legends Championship will see the field heading to Zwartkops Raceway to start their spring-leg of the season.
With only three rounds remaining, Jagger Robertson (4154 Points) heads up the title battle into the September 6-7 race weekend with a 54-point advantage over Justin Robertson (4100 Points). The previous round at Red Star Raceway marked the first occasion for the season that a Robertson did not take a race win and with 1800 points still to play for in 2019, the rest of the field will be aware that they can still catch up.
Heading up the rest of the challengers is Willie Erasmus (3400 Points). Following a consistent start to the season, the middle part saw him falling behind due to injuries and mechanical problems. In the last seven starts he is the only driver to have taken multiple wins; four of them in fact. He will be wanting to repeat his form from the previous outing at Zwartkops Raceway, the circuit where he opened his account of wins for the year.
Only 223 points separates positions four- to nine on the points table with Chris Hoy (3033 Points) heading up the group. Hoy along with Ian Upton (2973) and Richard van Heerde (2963) have provided a host of good midfield battles throughout the season and will be eager for another competitive showdown. Debutant Andre Larsson (2909 Points) and Johann van de Venter (2883 Points) have both been showing good form through the latter part of the season while Jason Loosemore (2810 Points) already has seven wins to his name in 2019.
The weekend will also see Charl (1975 Points) and Gerhard Roux (1780 Points) back on the entry list with both drivers known to be competitive among the front runners. Capetonians, Dayne Angel and Jarryd Evans, will be making their debut in the championship as well. Both drivers come from a strong motorsport background and are currently competing in the Mopar South African Endurance Series. Angel has also shown his skill in the GTC2 championship in 2017-2018.
Saturday will see a very busy program at Zwartkops Raceway with 15 regional categories competing in 23 races. The day’s first Liqui Moly INEX Legends race will start at 09:30 and will be run over eight laps. This race will see the field starting as per the grid drawn in the morning. A second eight lap race from an inverted draw-grid will start at 13:25 with the third race contested over ten laps scheduled for 17:20. Race 3 will be started on a grid based on the day’s inverted points table.
