ABBOTTSTOWN, PA : Night one of the 2020 INEX International Dirt Championships from Lincoln Speedway is in the books and has set the majority of the feature lineups for Saturday night. Eventhough this is an off year for the national point structure, there are still close to 90 drivers that have entered this weekend across all four divisions.
Group qualifying was used to determine the heat race lineups for the night and it was Jaiden Reyna (Young Lions), Ryan Shabram (Semi-Pro), Joey Clanton (Master) and Jeremy Ott (Pro) who would top the pylon in their respective classes.
The Young Lions heat race was first on the track and it turned out to be one of the closest finishes as Daniel Adam just beat Nikita Johnson to the checkered flag by .025-seconds. Since there is no usual INEX Nationals point system in use at this event, Adam has secured the inside front row for the 30 lap feature on Saturday night.
There were three Semi-Pro heat races and with 33 cars on the property not everyone will make the A-Main. The top 6 in each of the three heat races locked their way into the feature race for Saturday, while everyone else will be split into two B-Mains, with the top three finishers where advance to the A-Main.
Semi-Pro heat race one was a back and forth battle as pole sitter Shabram spun on the first lap. On the restart, Central PA Legends regulars Alex Robinson, Stephen Wurtzer and Billy Workman, Jr. would battle for the 10 lap dash for the victory. In the end it was Workman, Jr. who crossed under the checkered flag for the win.
Seth Kearchner and Landen Lewis brought the second heat race down to the start as Kearchner would lead the first lap. Tennessee’s Jacob Owens joined the battle for the lead as the field began to get single file.
Lewis got to the inside of Kearchner for the lead off turn four on lap six, and contact from Lewis to the door of Kearchner sent the 30 around in turn one and brought out the yellow.
Lewis would go on to take the heat race with Owens and Josh Sanoske in third.
Nate Tretow and Steven Partin brought the third heat race down to the green flag. The caution waved on lap one after Cory Phillips made contact with Ryan Sullivan and knocked Sullivan off the ground and around. Both drivers sustained enough damage to end their night.
Tretow led on the restart and seemed to be in a good position to take the win, but on lap 6 the car appeared to either shut off or jump out of gear and slowed in front of the field. The chain-reaction knocked the front bumper of third place runner Chris Transeau off as he hit the back of Partin.
Ohio Valley Legends promotor Partin would hold off local racer Jorjie Sweger for the heat race win after Tretow’s car suddenly slowed once again as he was in second.
The Masters Division had former ASA Champion Joey Clanton on the pole for heat race number one with Joe Adam alongside. Clanton wasted no time as he set the pace early and completed the 10 laps in just under 3 and half minutes and three seconds clear of the field.
John Gutman and Central PA Legends Travis Perry lined up on the front row for the second Masters heat race on the night. a quick caution on lap 2 after a spin by Michael Goldsmith slowed the pace for a restart.
Perry took the lead from Gutman on the restart and he was able to hold serve over the remainder of the laps to defend his home turf.
Greg Burd and Scott Houdeshell led the third and final Masters heat race to the green flag. Houdeshell would lead lap one as those two, along with Dwayne Holder would break away from the remainder of the field. Houdeshell, in a brand new car, led all the way to capture the heat race victory.
In the Legends Pro division, Jeremy Ott and Jake Tretow would take home the heat race wins as all the drivers advance to the feature.
