One day after an announcement the promotional company and track ownership will sever ties after the 2023 season, it has been announced the Bandolero class has been terminated immediately at Chemung Speedrome in New York due to safety concerns.
According to a post on the track’s social by promoter Ray Hodge, while attempting to build the Bandolero division (and possibly Legends in the future), they have been having issues dealing with the high speeds the cars travel around the 3/8-mile asphalt oval. On Friday, July 28, two Bandoleros flipped in separate incidents. Neither Joey Allowatt and Devon Gullo suffered serious injuries, according to the post, however, there was extensive damage to both their cars.
Jordan Smith won the final Bandolero event, and the track announced the champions are Gullo in the Outlaws division and Allowatt in the Bandits division. With the future of the track in peril, Friday might be the last time action from the Legends and Bandolero nation will be seen at Chemung Speedrome.
A copy of the post on the track’s social, which can be seen here, is below.
Chemung ending Bandolero class for the remainder of the 2023 schedule.
Dealing with the speeds of the Bandoleros has been an issue for some time now, After watching 2 of these Bandoleros destroyed this past Friday both flipping in separate incidents, we have made the decision to suspend the division for the season. Although these cars are very well built and very safe, the speed and the size of the track make for a scary event.
Both Drivers, Joey Allowatt and Devon Gullo were briefly shaken but suffered no serious injuries and climbed from the cars under their own power.
Devon Gullo is the the 2023 overall Bandolero Champion
Joey Allowatt is the 2023 Bandolero Outlaw Champion.
