Legends and Bandoleros were in action on Saturday, August 17, at Jefferson Speedway in Wisconsin. Dillon Schwanbeck (Legends) and Teegan Wangsness (Bandoleros) won the features. Race stories below as posted by the track.
Legends
Poynette’s Dillon Schwanbeck picked up his second consecutive Legends feature race after winning the 25 lap affair. Art Hahn took the early lead from the outside of row one as Schwanbeck quickly flew into the top five. By lap seven Schwanbeck was up to third and challenging for the second position. Schwanbeck made the pass for second just before the yellow flag flew for the point leader, Lincoln Cain, making hard contact with the front stretch wall. Hahn and Schwanbeck paced the field back to green with Schwanbeck pouncing on the lead. Schwanbeck maintained his lead through two more cautions while Ryan Laatsch made his way up to second. But Laatsch couldn’t close on Schwanbeck in the final laps as Schwanbeck cruised to the checkers for the win. Laatsch was second with Travis Rose, Hahn and Jacob Stark completing the top five.
Bandoleros
Jefferson’s Teegan Wangsness hung on to claim the 15 lap Bandolero feature event by mere inches. Ace Oldenhoff led early with Wangsness charging up alongside on lap two. Wangsness moved out front alone on lap four as he began to open up a healthy lead over the field. Meanwhile, Bentley Thompson was making his way through the field and up to second by lap seven. Thompson began to chip away at the lead Wangsness was enjoying. Thompson arrived at the rear bumper of the leader on lap 14. Thompson dove under Wangsness exiting turn two and pair of pilots raced under the white flag side by side. Thompson inched ahead, holding the advantage as they raced down the backstretch for the final time. But Wangsness drove the car deep into turn three, holding the momentum and the lead as they raced off turn four. Wangsness held the slight advantage as they flew past the checkers to score the win. Thompson settled for second followed by Emily Billings, Kaeden Wangsness and Harley Johnson.
