EDITOR’S NOTE (added): Legends did race an approximate six-race season in 2023 with Jamie Call officially winning the championship, so the 2024 season is technically the second season of racing at the track upon the return of Legends there. Original article below.
For many years, Legend Car racing appeared to be extinct in Texas. With Legends and Bandolero racing ending years ago at Texas Motor Speedway on the front stretch quarter-mile oval, their Lil’ Texas small track, and other facilities across the state, a return of them to the state wasn’t expected. However, in 2023, a couple drivers got together and formed Texas Independent Racing, and now their first full season of racing back at Houston Motorsports Park will conclude Saturday, November 9, crowning a series champion for the first time in years.
The 10-event series has seen 22 drivers throughout the year hit the track for Legend Car racing. Of the nine events to date before Saturday’s season finale, Christopher Hogan has been the dominate driver, racking up seven victories. He sits atop of the points with 895, and appears to be on his way to the season championship.
Jamie Call hasn’t been able to break into victory circle yet in 2024, however, his four top-five finishes and eight top-10s has him sitting second in points with 840. Austin Call also hasn’t won this year, but his eight top-10s puts him third with 822 points.
The only other driver to win this year is Dane Schwarz, who picked up two wins, which puts him fourth in points with 788. Rounding out the top five is Evan Schwarz with six top-five finishes and 752 points.
