Hermiston Raceway Announces Closure After Shocking Letter of Land Sale by Owner

Hermiston Raceway Closed

Hermiston Raceway, a 3/8ths-mile paved oval in Hermiston, Oregon, announced Saturday the track is closing immediately due to a shocking letter of land sale by owner. The track hosted multiple divisions of racing for years, including Legend Cars and Bandoleros.

According to a post on their social media page, the promoters said the final lap has been taken at the historic track.

“This past Saturday, I received a handwritten letter from our landowner informing me that the facility has been sold and we must vacate the premises by January 15th,” stated the post.

“To say I was caught off guard is an understatement. We had a verbal agreement to continue in 2025 and were getting a plan together to purchase the facility. We had 10 events planned and were looking forward to a promising 2025 season. But as things stand, it seems we have already held our final event.”

The post went on to thank those that have helped support the track over the years.

“Despite this gut-wrenching end, we want to extend our deepest thanks to the drivers, sponsors, and fans who supported us throughout the years. You helped make Hermiston Raceway a success, and for that, we are forever grateful.”

The track already had a schedule in place for the 2025 season with multiple racing events. Their “signature” events will now move to Tri-City Raceway, a half-mile oval in West Richland, Oregon, that the same promoters also manage.

“However, as we close this chapter, we are excited to add our signature events to my existing schedule at Tri-City Raceway. With an 11 event schedule planned, we anticipate continued growth and thrilling competition, making Tri-City Raceway the undisputed hub for motorsports.”

With the current track length of Tri-City Raceway being too big for Legends and Bandoleros, it appears at this time the local racers will not be able to partake in the action moved from Hermiston Raceway to Tri-City Raceway, however, that might be only temporary as they are working on building a smaller track to host all local divisions that used to race at Hermiston.

“Currently we are gaining investors & resources to bring a 1/4 mile oval track @ Tri-City Raceway bringing all our local divisions to the team.”

There is no word at this time on what will become of the land Hermiston Raceway sits on.
