Legends returned to Carteret County Speedway (NC) on Saturday, May 17, with a $250 bounty on the line to beat Scotty Benford. The bounty brought out Dillon Spain, who hasn’t raced a Legend in multiple years on asphalt, and he made the best of it, winning the race. Recap from Andy Marquis below, as well as results.
Dillon Spain is one of the most decorated Legend Car drivers on the East Coast, but he has spent more time focusing on preparing other drivers and helping to develop young talent in recent years. On Saturday, he chose to get back behind the wheel of a Legend Car at Carteret for the first time in the post-pandemic era.
The result was a victory as Spain was able to cash out on the $250 bounty that had been placed on two-time defending division champion Scotty Benford.
“I wanted to come out and have some fun,” Spain stated. “I don’t get a chance to race so this seemed like the right opportunity to have some fun with my dad, like old times.”
Brenton Irving finished in second while Scotty Benford took home third.
