Pro Legend Car driver Jacob Burns was disqualified from the feature in the 2025 Legend Car Asphalt Nationals after bypassing tech post-race, which cost him the provisional National Points Championship for 2025. There was some confusion in the Nation regarding the situation, so Legends Nation contacted INEX to get clarification.
In the Nationals feature, Burns was involved in a wreck on track. According to a team representative, while they were fixing the car in the hot pit to get him back on track, they did not replace the one-way communication device that was lost or damaged in the wreck. Burns was unable to hear the race director call him to the tech area at the conclusion of the event as the provisional champion, and due to bypassing tech, he was disqualified.
According to the 2025 INEX Racing Series rulebook, page 17, “Upon entering an Event, any car, or component(s), may be inspected to confirm legality at any time by an INEX Official or representative.”
However, there were several comments made on social media that were confused over the disqualification. Legends Nation contacted INEX to clarify the incident. See the below question, as well as the answer from Scott Reinhardt, General Manager of INEX Racing Series.
QUESTION: “In the Pro race, it was made known the No. 13 was disqualified for not going to tech post-race after instructed by the race director. Was it announced in the driver’s meeting the “provisional champion” might be called to tech along with the top five, or was that just made known on the radio for them to go to tech at end of race?“
ANSWER: “Both. It was stated in the drivers meeting that the top 5 finishers and the provisional champion (if not in the top 5) would be called into tech. And, it was called over the raceceiver for the #13 car to go to tech. After the #13 car bypassed tech, the scorers in the tower stated that the next provisional champion was the #24 car. And, tech verified that the #24 car was in tech. – Scott Reinhardt”
The drivers’ meeting was mandatory, according to the rules set forth for the event, as well as a working one-way communication device. Unfortunately, it was just an oversight by the team during the rush to get him back on track to save the championship chance.
Note: Legends Nation also asked INEX multiple other questions regarding the finishing results of the event and will post updates regarding those situations once answers are received.
