In one of the most bizarre situations we have seen, the Thunder Valley Speedway Speedway dirt track in Willow, Alaska, has closed due to an ownership dispute. The Wallace family founded the track in 1978 under the name Capitol Speedway, selling it to Jason and Phil Hutchings in 2022 (through owner financing), and was renamed Thunder Valley Speedway. According to news reports, the Hutching payments stopped in July, 2025, and the family has said they have filed for foreclosure, telling local news they are looking to take it back over and reopen it.
Meanwhile, Jason Hutchings has posted a series of posts and accusations against the Wallace family, claiming theft of property (to which he stated the DA’s office and Alaska state troopers are working on, including stealing keys, mechanical equipment, and more), hacked most of their online presence (website, MyLaps, and social), and they are a crime family. He claims the Wallace family has filed six to 10 restraining orders on him that were all denied due to being “lies and unfounded.”
In some of the most-odd claims, he stated Nancy Wallace bait traps squirrels on her property, takes them to the local pond and drowns them. Hutchings has stated he is turning the track grounds into Squirrel Estates, “a mobile home park that caters to people that could use a lifting hand in life,” and urges people to help save the lives of the local squirrels.
Hutchings has stated the only parts of the track torn down were grandstands and walls that the Wallace family was using against him in court filings for safety reasons, and the track is for sale, but there hasn’t been any takers. In subsequent posts, he called Tim Wallace a “pedo,” said he only stopped payments when he was being harassed by the Wallace family, and stated “Nasty Nancy” has over $350K of his money, saying she isn’t a victim, and is a fraud.
LN has reached out to both parties through social media, and has yet to hear back.
Hutchings’ first post on the subject can be read here. More on his Facebook page here.
While the end result of this dispute is not known at this time, we do know Legends and others that raced at the track currently will not be racing there, and may never race at the track that has been in operation for nearly 50 years.
