Legends raced Saturday, June 10, at Carteret County Speedway in North Carolina, with excitement and controversy concluding the evening. Brenton Irving, who has won multiple times at the track this season, had a heated battle with Scotty “Scotty B” Benford. At the checkered flag, it was Irving taking the win, however, the track disqualified him, giving the unofficial victory to Scotty B.
Initially, according to a Facebook post by the track, the disqualification was due to “no raceceiver.” It was later clarified as “Breaking rules 5.1.1, 5.1.2, and 5.4.9 in our race procedures and safety rules.”
The track’s rules, as posted on their website, states the following:
5.1.1. Raceceivers are mandatory in all divisions.
5.1.2. Raceceivers must be in your ear and on during all on track activity including practice, qualifying, and races. Spotters will be allowed to wear the raceceiver and relay information to the driver.
5.4.9. Any competitor or patron/crew member that purposely delays the program by stopping on the track to draw a caution, stopping on the track under caution (with no safety concern), or in any other way manipulates the natural ‘flow’ of the event will be subject to disqualification and/or fine and/or suspension. $500 maximum fine.

Scotty B stated in his victory lane interview he didn’t want to win the race that way, and a team rep stated on social media, “Scotty B is definitely not proud of the way the decision prevailed. We don’t make the decisions or the rules he is just there to perform to the best ability as possible.”
LegendsNation.com reached out to Irving for a comment on the situation. He stated he is appealing the decision.
“I love Carteret County Speedway, and hope this can all be resolved with my appeal this week!”
LN will post an update and official results once posted by the track.
