JACKSONVILLE, NC – Summer Speedweeks got underway on Saturday night with familiar faces gracing victory lane in the Independence Bash at New River All-American Speedway.

The Independence Bash began with the first of two Bandolero features.  Landon Burbage took the lead from Delaney Gray in the opening laps, but Gray would save her best for last.  After trying to pass Burbage for several laps, Gray was finally able to make the race-winning pass coming out of turn four to the checkered flag, scoring her seventh career New River All-American Speedway victory by a margin of .015 seconds.

“We were fighting for it,” Gray said in victory lane.  “We did really good.  I just want to thank all my family for working really hard to get this car together.  Everybody did really good.  We were just a little bit faster.  [Burbage] got us at the beginning and then we were able to pull it off.  I just want to thank all my sponsors.”

Landon Burbage would go on to win the second Bandolero race, while Gray was sidelined early in an on-track collision.

Carson Hailip swept in the Legends division to lock himself into the Race for the Championship playoffs in September.  The second race in the Legends double feature was one of the wildest of the evening, beginning with Shane Irving’s spectacular wreck on the opening lap when he flipped end over end.  While his car sustained significant damage, the elder Irving was fine and in good spirits after the incident.
