Flowers and Boehmer Win; Belcher Hospitalized after Flip at Alaska Raceway Park

Alaska Raceway Park - August 5 2023 - Jay Belcher Flip

Bandoleros and Legends were scheduled to race double features on Saturday, August 5, at Alaska Raceway Park. In the Bandoleros division, Wyatt Flowers was able to win both features. In the first Legends feature, Saygen Boehmer took the checkered flag first.

At the beginning of the second Legends feature, contact between a couple cars ended up clipping the right rear of Jay Belcher’s car, causing him to flip down the backstretch, slamming roof first into the turn three wall. According to reports from the track and competitors, action was halted for 30 to 40 minutes as Life Med was used to helicopter him out of the infield to a local hospital.  The remainder of the race (and rest of the track’s action for the day) was canceled.

A post by the track on Sunday stated Belcher was in good spirits and already asking about getting his car fixed to race next season.

On Monday, Legends Nation contacted Stacy Sims, the daughter of Belcher. Early Tuesday morning she gave us an update. Belcher is still currently in the hospital with a concussion and a broken pelvis. However, he is optimistic and isn’t giving up on his dream to race. He was already shopping for parts to fix his Legends car less than 24 hours after the wreck. He also has the support of his family during the recovery and beyond.

“Every moment spent with my Dad is a blessing and I’m looking forward to being his pit crew next season,” Sims told LN.

Legends Nation will have more on Belcher later in the week, and will continue to update his recovery progress.
