On July 9, 1991, NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt (Sr.) raced an IMCA Modified in a 10-lap invitational race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, claiming the victory. Now, over 33 years later, Bandolero racers get to etch their name in the history books as INEX has announced the 2024 Bandolero Nationals event will take place at the Iowa facility September 6 – 7.
In a state widely in the news due to the NCAA Women’s Basketball star, Caitlin Clark, who has set many records this year playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes (who play in a final four event later this evening), the Bandolero Nationals will be not only be a new host track for the event, but also new for the region.
“INEX is excited to be going to Hawkeye Downs Speedway and the Midwest for this year’s Bandolero Nationals,” said Scott Reinhardt, INEX General Manager, in the INEX press release. “We’re proud to the see the growth and support for INEX and U.S. Legend Cars in that region and from Hawkeye Downs, who has been a longtime supporter of our program.”
Brian Gibson, Hawkeye Downs Speedway Race Director, also commented on the release.
“Hawkeye Downs Speedway is very excited to host the 2024 Bandolero Nationals. Our organization is a firm believer that racing is generational. Our support of racing now is the future. We enjoy supporting young drivers who are passionate about racing. We hope they will continue to add fuel to that passion, passing it onto the next generation.”
