Natural Bridge, VA (April 20, 2024)- Chambersburg, PA’s Devin Friese returned to his winning ways by claiming the 20-lap East Coast Legend Series event Saturday at the historic Natural Bridge Speedway. This was the first win of the season for Friese, who claimed the 2023 Series championship.

Earlier in the night, Devin was out-dueled by his son, Kelby Friese, in the second heat race, which relegated Devin to the fourth starting position in the feature. Likewise, Scott Houdeshell, who finished second to Colton Friese in the first heat, started third alongside Devin.

Colton and Kelby shared the front row by virtue of their heat wins as the feature went green. Colton led the early laps, but Devin and Houdeshell would move by Colton as Devin took the lead with Houdeshell in second. Devin would distance himself from Houdeshell for the second half of the race and go on to secure the checkered flag and victory in the feature that had just once caution for debris.

Devin expressed gratitude to Natural Bridge Speedway in Victory Lane. He indicated that he could run top to bottom on the track, and the surface was one of the best surfaces that he had competed on in quite some time. He also acknowledged the respect the Natural Bridge staff showed the East Coast Legend Series.

Houdeshell, making his first East Coast start of the season, ran a strong race to finish second. Colton would hold on for third and Kelby took fourth. North Carolina’s Chase Singletary, who survived a wild ride over the fourth-turn embankment during hot laps, recovered to finish fifth in the A-Main. Logan Jones took sixth and Mike Kelley finished seventh. It was heartbreak for Grady McGrew. After making the tow from Gettysburg, PA, McGrew suffered clutch problems on the first lap of hot laps and was done for the night.

The Series will enjoy a double-header this weekend as it makes its first trip to Linda’s Speedway on Friday, April 26, followed by a return trip to Path Valley Speedway on Saturday, April 27.
