The East Coast Legend Series raced at Potomac Speedway in Maryland on Sunday, May 26, with Tanner Jones earning the victory. Story and results below, as posted by the series.
(May 26, 2024) Budds Creek, MD-New Jersey’s Tanner Jones came to Potomac Speedway Sunday looking for redemption in East Coast Legend Series action, and he got it!
After mechanical failure thwarted a potential win while leading at Clinton County the previous Friday, Jones came to Potomac looking to right the ship…and to do it, he would find himself again battling Colton Friese as he has done for a good part of the season.
Jones and Friese, who won their respective heats earlier in the evening, occupied the front row at the drop of the green. Quickly, the two found themselves engrossed in a heated battle as Jones ran the top side while Friese looked low. The two ran side-by-side and nose-to-tail in the early laps before Jones was able to move ahead to secure the top spot. When the checkered flag fell, Jones, in his Austin Bellemare- owned machine, would claim top honors for the night at Potomac and become the first repeat winner in the Series in 2024.
Friese, despite a valiant effort, claimed second. Scott Houdeshell, one of the most successful drivers in Series history, kept Jones and Friese in his sights throughout the event and took third. Defending Series champion, Devin Friese, claimed fourth, and Mike Racine looked sporty to round out the top five.
Jake Locklear made the trip from North Carolina payoff to claim sixth. Shaun Abney, who finished runner-up in the season-opener at BAPS, took seventh. Logan Jones continued his string of solid efforts to finish eighth. Justin Wagaman, who finished third on Friday at Clinton County, claimed ninth and Scott Musselman rounded out the top-10, as he enjoyed a pair of top-10 finishes for the weekend.
The Series returns to Path Valley this Saturday, June 1 for a double-header, including a make-up feature from April 27.
