From Midwest Legends Dirt Series (written by Zack Krueger)
Maquoketa, IA (August 3rd, 2024) – It may have taken Jordan Miklas seven races to do it, but he finally found the magic combo to pick up his second Midwest Legends Dirt Series Presented by Legends.Direct feature win of the season. A last lap pass from Miklas past championship rival Jackson Lewis sealed the win for the driver who has played second fiddle most of the season.
Twenty-five cars filled the pits, with twenty-one of the twenty-five racing at Lafayette County Speedway the night prior, with Makenna Zachman, Colton Utley, Kasey Korsmo, and Cole O’brien, jumping in for just Maquoketa.
The three heat races in the night went to Dave Eberle, Jackson Lewis, and Michael Weber. A wide track meant a difficult heat one for our field, with Eberle walking away while second finishing Dallas Ross and third finishing Colton utley duking it out. Lewis started at the back of his heat but quickly made progress forward, picking up the win with Brycen Wilson and Talyn Neuman in tow. Weber had to work for his win with Adam Zellmer and Jordan Miklas hot on his heels the entire heat race.
Kacey Korsmo got the draw and started from the pole for the fifteen-lap feature, and championship leader Jackson Lewis started second. Korsmo got the jump, leading the field through the first few laps with Michael Weber close behind. Jordan Miklas dueled with Lewis for third, with Talyn Neuman getting in the battle for the third spot as well. Lewis began going all the way up the track to try and find pace but just couldn’t close on the #44M. The battle for the seventh heated up quickly, with over five drivers all trying for the spot. Korsmo led the field through the halfway point, but Weber was there before the yellow flew. A seven-lap sprint ensued with Korsmo the leader. Lewis found pace in the middle and top and began to close down for the lead, working by Miklas and Weber before the yellow flew for the final time during the night. A quick restack of the field set up a five-lap shootout this time. Korsmo led the field to green once again and was quickly under fire from Lewis, who made the move on lap eleven for the lead. Korsmo fell to second with a hungry Miklas right behind, who worked around the #52JR on lap fourteen. Miklas found something in the middle, getting a great run on Lewis coming to the white flag. Miklas had it at the line and was able to inch ahead of Lewis, closing the door in the final corners on the last lap. Jordan Miklas drove his tail off to pick up his second feature win of the season. Lewis and Korsmo brought up the rest of the podium with Dallas Ross finishing in a strong fourth and Jeff Schmidt in fifth after a run through the field.
After picking up the win, Jordan Miklas got 25% off a full suit fit from Rush RaceGear and a buy-one-get-one wheel rim from Aero Race Wheels. Brady Ascherien got $100 off any Rush RaceGear purchase and $25 from SunSet Auto for being the hard charger, up thirteen spots from his starting twenty-first place. Michael Weber won the HMS Motorsport Raceceiver device.
The Midwest Legends Dirt Series has a rare off weekend this coming weekend, with action resuming on August 17th at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
