From East Coast Legend Series PR –
Sept. 1, 2024 (Mechanicsville, MD)-Gettysburg, PA’s Logan Carbaugh led all 15 laps to claim his first East Coast Legend Series victory of 2024 Sunday at Potomac Speedway. “This Series is very tough and winning in this Series is a huge achievement,” Carbaugh explained following the event.
The story just wasn’t in the Victory, but it was also in how Carbaugh arrived at it…and it wasn’t an easy night to say the least. “We struggled pretty much all night with a tight race car in the heat and we overheated due to our fan not working. (We) figured out the problem and fixed it,” Carbaugh explained. Just having a heat race to diagnose the issues proved very fortuitous as the second heat was scratched due to rain.
A complete redraw to determine starting positions placed Kelby Friese on the point with Dalton Friese to the outside of the front row. Carbaugh started fourth. “We threw everything at the car for the feature,” Carbaugh said. Colton Friese, who won the first heat, would start out back.
At the drop of the green, Dalton Friese took the lead and held it the first four circuits. Carbaugh, by then, had moved to second. Kelby Friese dropped to third as Colton Friese took fourth. Chris Transeau rode fifth. On lap five, Carbaugh moved by Dalton Friese to take the point. For the next five laps, Carbaugh held the lead with Kelby Friese in second. By lap 10, Colton Friese had assumed the runner-up spot.
On lap 12, contact between Carbaugh and Colton Friese while battling for the lead sent Carbaugh and his No. 27 machine into the spin cycle. Colton Friese was sent to the rear while Carbaugh was allowed his spot back. The remaining three laps would force Carbaugh to hold off a hard-charging Transeau, who was substitute piloting Devin Friese’s No. 12 machine. “I felt a bump on the front stretch which he (Transeau) was letting me know he was there,” Carbaugh said. “But I must say that Transeau and I have always raced each other clean,” Carbaugh concluded.
Despite Transeau’s best efforts, Carbaugh would not be denied as held on to claim the $500 to win feature sponsored by Three Mules Welding Supply. Transeau held on for second. Kelby Friese had a very strong race to take third. Dalton Friese continued to impress with a fourth-place effort. Scott Musselman was solid to take fifth.
Colton Friese rebounded to finish sixth, and Hunter McElroy enjoyed a seventh-place finish. Logan Jones took eighth. Eric Hurst and Scott Spidle were ninth and 10th respectively despite not finishing the event. Colby Miller was the 11th driver to enter the event, but an incident in his heat precluded him from starting the feature.
The Series thanks David H. Martin Excavating, Inc. for its title sponsorship of the Series. The Series is back in action Saturday, Sept. 7 for its final appearance of the season at Lincoln Speedway. The race at Lincoln is sponsored by Harvest Chapel PA and Pastor Dave Miller.
