The 2024 Legend Car Dirt Nationals at BAPS Motor Speedway (PA) concluded on Saturday, October 12, with some wild racing action. Nationals feature winners were Ryan Zima (Young Lions), Colton Friese (Semi-Pro), Alex McCollum (Pro), and Devin Friese (Masters).
With the points season completed, this event technically crowned champions. However, due to INEX making sure tracks have all their results submitted for calculations, they were not ready to officially name champions. Still, speculation of who won the season points champions went through the pits, including one that was decided in post-race tech.
In the Young Lions division, Ty Olson had a virtual lock on the championship. However, after crossing the line fourth in the feature, Olson was disqualified in post-race tech. INEX told LN it was due to an unapproved part. The team told LN a washer was found on the panhard bar. With the DQ, Brady Ascherien, who finished fourth in the feature, is the unofficial Young Lions season champion.
The battle for the title in the Semi-Pro division took a few wild turns. Kody Machart entered the points in fourth with a shot at the title, but ended up having issues and did not finish the feature. Noah Madler and Quade Schoonover were first and second in points, having a fierce battle on track, which resulted in the two making contact, sending them both to the rear of the field. Meanwhile, up front, Colton Friese took the checkered flag first, and with Madler and Shoonover finishing outside the top 14, Friese is unofficially the Semi-Pro season champion.
The battle for the Pro division title was one of the more watched battles as both Preston Martin and Jackson Lewis were tied with max points heading into the Nationals feature. While Lewis had a somewhat uneventful race, eventually finishing third, Martin had a myriad of issues, including being involved in incidents that kept sending him to the back of the field, and one time, contact put him in the wall. Lewis is the unofficial Pro champion.
Donavin Wiest entered the Masters division Nationals feature in the National points lead, and pretty well just needed a decent finish to stay on top of the points chart. Glenn Mitchell, who was second in points, did finish in fourth, ahead of Wiest, however, Wiest finished sixth, and with only two positions separating them, Wiest is the unofficial national points champion.
LN will post the official champions at a later date once INEX certifies the final points.
