From Jason Stix Buckley, owner of Legends Nation –
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced this morning a change to their platform regarding fact-checking and free expression. Specifically, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in a video this morning they are getting rid of the fact-checking model they have been using and instead going to a community notes system like X (formerly Twitter) has. Additionally, they are loosening restrictions on free speech, which will allow more “discourse” on their platforms. More on this can be seen on this Fox News article here.
How does this affect Legends Nation?
Since LN launched in 2007, we have used the tagline “… and justice for all” with the site (and also on our current shirts and hoodies for sale, which you can get here). We believe everything should be fair and balanced across the board, especially in the news, information, and social media worlds. We commend Meta for this change that doesn’t silence anyone based on any bias.
As far as our social media pages, such as Facebook, we have allowed a wide range of opinions about various things happening in the Legend Car and Bandolero world of racing. This includes positive posts about things happening, to some posts disagreeing with INEX, track decisions, or differences of opinion on racing incidents and the like. We will continue to allow this to happen. However, as we have stated many times in the past, there is a limit on how things are stated. For instance, we have no problem with people disagreeing and discussing, but we will not allow bashing or extreme nasty content. There is a polite way to discuss everything, and there is a rude and nasty way to do it. We are cool with the polite, but not the nasty.
So, while Meta is loosening their rules, we are staying with ours, which have been flexible to allow positive discussion to disagreements since we started our socials, but we still will not allow extreme bashing on our pages. If a person cannot tactfully and respectfully express disagreement, we simply do not want you on our social pages, and will ban those accounts from access or posting. We prefer our pages to be more of a promotional and positive location for those that follow Legend Cars and Bandoleros, not a negative and hateful cesspool of posts. If you prefer the negative, there are plenty of other places to post, including your own pages and accounts.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact us through email or send us a private message on any of our social platforms.
Thank you for your understanding. Race on!
