After what seems like an absolute eternity since the 2025 Legends Cars Championship season began, the ultra-entertaining pocket rockets are absolutely raring to go for their return to action over Spring Bank Holiday weekend at Oulton Park – with a support slot alongside the British GT Championship.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, 24th May, and Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May, at the Cheshire track’s full International Circuit, features rounds three and four of the Legends campaign and the six races will also form the opening two rounds of this year’s Legends Cars Elite Cup.

Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit’s season-opener at the end of March was an absolute belter of a race meeting, the Legends Cars delivering scintillating action at the beginning of a new era for the category with the introduction of the brand new MT09 water-cooled, three-cylinder engine.

Nine competitors opted to run with the new engine, which proved a fantastic step forward for the championship, and for next weekend’s visit to Oulton Park it is expected 16 drivers at least from the grid of around 25 competitors will race with the water-cooled powerplant.

Tyler Read (Weedon) emerged from Donington’s action seven weeks ago on top of the standings having taken two excellent race victories and chalking-up major points throughout the event, and he will arrive at Oulton 75 points clear of Connor Mills (Upminster) who made history in Leicestershire as the maiden race winner with the MT09 engine.

Mills will certainly be looking to make a great start to this year’s Elite Cup after also entering the history books in 2023 as its inaugural Champion. He is 45 points ahead of the equally consistent Oli Schlup (Cuckfield), who would’ve been second in the points were it not for a 50-point penalty.

Reigning Elite Cup Champion Jack Parker (Wolverhampton) is fourth in the overall Championship, tied on points with Schlup, and another 75 points shy of him is Will Gibson (Farnborough) the reigning and two-time Legends Cars Champion who won twice at Donington. Sixth in the points ahead of Oulton is Ireland’s Jamie Moylan (Naas), another of the truly consistent front-runners.

Stephen Treherne (Islington), winner of the round two Final, is just five points behind Moylan and also heads the Masters Cup after four class wins at Donington. Completing the overall top 10 in the Championship are Andy Bird (Calne), Chris Needham (Altrincham) and reigning Masters Champion Nick Bridgeman (Baldock). In the Rookie battle, Owen Lawlor (Dublin) aced all six Donington wins.

Other drivers to keep an eye on include multiple race winner Marcus Pett (Boston), who made his return to racing at Donington after 18 months on the sidelines due to injury, last year’s Elite Cup Masters Cup Champion Peter Barrable (Dublin), Scotland’s Ross Marshall (Stirling), Matt Knight (Shoreham by Sea), Nick Price (March) and former overall Vice-Champion Steve Whitelegg (Bury).

For those new to Legends Cars racing, qualifying doesn’t actually set the grids for the Heats – the session ensures all competitors have completed the required number of laps to contest the races, the grids for the opening Heats each day are drawn by ballot.

For Heat Two of each round the ballot draw is reversed and then the grids for the respective Finals each day are set by points scored in the preceding two Heats, albeit with the highest scoring starting at the back and the lower scoring drivers at the front. Action is guaranteed, every lap, every race.

Phil Cooper – Legends Cars Championship Owner:

“It genuinely feels like forever since we were at Donington for the start of the season, so I think I can speak for everyone involved with the Championship when I say we’re even more excited than ever to be back racing next weekend at Oulton. Being the first two rounds of this year’s Elite Cup as well, and such a huge meeting with British GT on Bank Holiday weekend, it’s going to be incredible.

“Donington delivered fantastic racing and the new water-cooled engine proved very successful, it’s great to see more and more drivers opting to switch to the MT09. Tyler Read made a brilliant start to his season to lead the Championship, but there’s a very long way to go and Oulton always springs surprises. We hope to welcome lots of fans to the Legends paddock across the Bank Holiday!”

Legends Cars qualifying at Oulton Park will get underway at 08.30 on Saturday, 24th May, with Heat One of round three – race one of the Elite Cup season – starting at 11.30, Heat Two scheduled for 14.45 and the round three Final set to begin at 17.55. On Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May, Heat One of round four will start at 09.30, Heat Two at 12.00 and the Final at 15.05.
