On Friday, May 16th, 1997, history was made as the very first Bandolero race occurred, which took place at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, on the track’s quarter-mile oval. The INEX-sanctioned Bandoleros were created by U.S. Legend Cars International (then known as 600 Racing), and according to the current GM G.E. Chapman, this first race was more of an exhibition, with the drivers being mostly employees of the company. This race was seen in front of the NASCAR crowd as it took place on pole night for the NASCAR All-Star race as well as an IROC event.
LegendsNation.com’s founder and owner, Jason “Stix” Buckley, was at the event, and filmed the race from the stands. Watch the video below, or click here to watch it on YouTube.
