Kingsport Kartway in Tennessee Officially Closes

Kingsport Kartway Closed

Late on Sunday night, June 16, it was announced on social media by the track the Kingsport Kartway located in Kingsport, Tennessee, has officially closed.

The fifth-mile track built next to the main Kingsport Speedway track held Legends and Bandolero racing as late as 2023, however, in March of 2024, after releasing their track schedules for both the big and small tracks without INEX cars listed, LN contacted the track, who told LN a promoter search had garnered no results. While the schedule for the Speedway was filled for 2024, they would entertain racing Legends and Bandoleros on the small track, if a promoter stepped forward.

While the Kartway planned on continuing to race a full season of karting, a notice on May 12 from the track stated all remaining local race dates were canceled, however, they would “remain steadfast in our commitment to hosting 6 total points races, providing drivers with the opportunity to compete for the coveted championship title.” At the end of May the track posted they were still working on race dates that wouldn’t conflict with other tracks. No mention in any social posts were made regarding their search for an INEX promoter.

Late Sunday night, the track officially announced the closing.

“Kingsport Kartway has OFFICIALLY CLOSED

Although the Kingsport Kartway (Miniway) has closed its gates, we remain optimistic about the future of kart racing in our community. We are proud to have been part of a sport that brings people together and teaches children valuable life skills, such as perseverance and teamwork. We are grateful for the support of our volunteers and the enthusiasm of the children who participated in our events. We choose to focus on the positive impact we made and the memories we created, rather than dwelling on our closure. Thank you for being part of our journey!  All racers that has participated in our points races please stop by the office for your refund.”

While the Speedway is still in operation, Legends and Bandoleros currently do not race there, however, if a promoter is found, it is possible for a return to the big track in 2025.
