Earlier this year, Grassroots Motorsports reported that during a dinner preceding the Smith Heritage Invitational, Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Greg Walter revealed plans for a new road course in the works for the facility. The road course would consist of a long circuit as well as two shorter courses, and is being assisted in design by former Formula 1 driver, Alex Wurz. The track’s completion would be within one year of ground break, which was scheduled during the summer.
Rumors recently were posted on social media regarding the new build, including a possibility of a new oval built within the track layout for use by Legends and Bandoleros as well as a potential the road course could be used for the 2024 World Finals.
Legends Nation contacted U.S. Legend Cars International / INEX regarding the new track and rumors.
“No dates or locations for 2024 INEX national events are locked in at this time,” stated a representative authorized to speak on behalf of USLCI / INEX. “There will not be a quarter-mile or any oval constructed for any type of racing or driving, including Legend Car and Bandolero racing, on the new Charlotte Motor Speedway road course.”
Additionally, LN checked with USLCI / INEX on current facility usage for Legends and Bandoleros, and whether they will return to the fifth-mile back track behind the backstretch / turn three entrance to the big track.
“The fifth-mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway is not in a condition to host INEX Racing at this time. The focus for INEX will be continuing to host Winter Heat on the infield road course and the Cook Out Summer Shootout on the quarter-mile.”
