Spring Run, PA (June 15, 2024)- Enola, PA’s Scott Houdeshell proved Saturday at Path Valley Speedway Park why he is one of the most successful Legends drivers in the history of Pennsylvania Legends racing. Houdeshell led the East Coast Legend Series event almost flag-to-flag, and held off some stiff competition, to claim his first East Coast Victory of the year!

Grady McGrew grabbed the early lead from pole-sitter Mike Kelley before the end of the first circuit. Houdeshell would then take the point for the next three laps until a caution was brought out by an uncharacteristic spin by point leader, Colton Friese. When the race resumed, Houdeshell held off an onslaught of challenges from Jeremy Ott, Tanner Jones and Logan Carbaugh. Houdeshell held the point for the final 16 laps to cross the stripe first and claim the win.

This win added to a stellar Legends career for Houdeshell, who has amassed more than 50 Victories in 19 years of Legends competition. Houdeshell has also claimed a Series championship as well as a Legends Klascar championship. He also holds a PA Pro Division state championship, a PA Masters State championship, a Path Valley track championship and is a former winner in the Race of Champions. Still, with all these accomplishments, it had been a bit since Houdeshell visited Victory Lane.

That would explain why he was all smiles while being interviewed in Victory Lane. When asked about the competition, he said, “I couldn’t tell how close they were…I could hear them a little bit,” he added. When asked about the track conditions, Houdeshell said, “It was pretty good tonight…I changed it (set-up) before the feature, and it worked pretty good. Houdeshell also thanked the Friese Family (Series owners), and commended them on doing a great job.

Ott and Jones battled side-by-side for the runner-up spot for many laps as they ran close behind Houdeshell. At the checkers, Jones crossed the stripe for the apparent runner-up spot, but he was subsequently disqualified in post-race technical inspection. This awarded Ott the runner-up spot after a strong run throughout the race. Carbaugh would take third after a very solid race. Bob Stough, whose resume could compete with Houdeshell, claimed fourth and Scott Mussleman continued his string of strong runs to take fifth.

Despite sporting the yellow rookie bumper, rookie Ryan Walls continued his strong season to take sixth. Walls is a long-time Late Model standout. Tyler Rampmeyer, who continues to get faster each race, crossed the line in seventh. After winning the B-Main and starting 21st, Kelby Friese claimed the Dr. Zach Crouse $50 Hard Charger Award by finishing eighth. Cory Phillips had a solid effort in ninth, and Tim Hahn nailed down a top-10 effort in his first outing of the season.

Seth Kearchner, Grady McGrew and Kelley, who ran in the top-10 for much of the event, were involved in a minor altercation with four laps to go and were relegated to the rear of the field with four laps remaining. They finished the race but took disappointing finishing positions.

Kearchner, Jones, Ott and Carbaugh were the heat race winners. The East Coast Series returns to Path Valley Speedway this Saturday, June 22. Special thanks to Series sponsor, David H. Martin Excavating, Inc. . Also special thanks to Dr. Zach Crouse, DVM, for the race sponsorship of the East Coast Series at Path Valley.
