The Dirt Legends of the South series raced Saturday, May 3, at Hendry County Speedway in Florida, with Brett Jenkins claiming the win. The series race story is below as well as the results.
Dirt legends of the South made thier second stop of the season at Hendry County Speedway last night. Heat winners David Furtado (4) and Brett Jenkins (34) brought the field to green for the 15 lap feature. The race saw Brett Jenkins edge out to an early lead with Furtado and Daniel Alvarez (33) and Hunter Harmon (01) in hot pursuit of the lead.
The battle for the fifth spot was a all out brawl with the Mark Jenkins (44) showing a impressive performance holding off Jordon Sarr (80) Austin Jenkins (31) and Brain Crane (17c) and Mike Verhaagh (18). The lone caution of the event came after Sarr spun collecting Mark Jenkins ending both of their nights. Following the insident Marcus Wong (51) who started last made his way to 5th after battling his way through the half the field. Earning him the Hard Charger award for the event.
On the final restart Brett Jenkins jetted out to a comfortable lead of a few car links. With 5 laps to go David Furtado found his groove putting down the fastest lap of the race and closing to the bumper of Brett Jenkins. Furtado put the pressure on coming to the checkered getting the crowd on thier feet and seeing the leaders bumper to bumper across the line!!
After the dust settled Brett Jenkins would not be denied leading all 15 laps to capture his first win on the saeson! Thank you to all the competitors that came to support our event and we look forward to our next race June 14th at North Florida Speedway!
